Bergère was initially designed as a seating unit, with armchair and sofa versions, both of which were inspired by the classical French armchair. An icon of Autoban’s unique design sensibility, the armchair (as well as the sofa’s) seat frame was similarly upholstered, but the rest of the wooden framing was exposed. However, at this contemporary reinterpretation of the classical chair, the designers eliminated any frivolous details to arrive at an object of great precision. Two years later the series was added with a bed, which also shares the laid-back profile combined with a rigid shell.
